Our home was two to three years old and we noticed an alarming black smudge along the ceiling and the wall. Alarm turned to anger. Our son has a mold allergy and had been hospitalized three times for pneumonia related to his allergies, which cause respiratory symptoms.
I tried in vain scrubbing the mold away and spraying it down with bleach. It always came back within days, and it got worse.
Several men from the home builder inspected our attic and told us that there was nothing wrong. Another man from the window company told us that this often happens above sinks and tubs with poor ventilation. However, we’ve had an air exchange unit from the start.
We really wanted to take precautions as our son was sick constantly between hospitalizations. We tried to do the right things and could not imagine this mold problem could be happening in our new home.
Finally, we found the problem: Cold air, directly from the outside, was making direct contact with the sheet rock causing condensation and, eventually, mold. All this happened in the first year of owning our home. Crazy as it may sound, the home manufacturer sent a plumber when we called to relay what we discovered.
Mr. Keizer (our heating and plumbing provider) saved the day! After hearing about the mold, he brought us the ozone generator. I was more than skeptical. I thought there was no way something the size of a couple of loaves of bread could do anything, but we just plugged it in and let it run.
The ozone killed the mold spores, and I could wipe away any visible mold without having to scrub. It’s been several weeks and the mold has not returned. Best of all, the chronic cough my son developed in the last nine months is gone. I believe the ozone generator worked just as our plumber said it would.
We are happy and very thankful that Ozone Solutions is providing this equipment. All we had to do was plug it in!
