Ozone use in Flour Milling
Ozone has been used in the flour milling industry for various uses for many years now. Dissolved Ozone has been used in the wheat tempering process, and gaseous ozone has been used in the flour for microbe control. Recently Ozone Solutions was involved in using ozone for shelf life extension of the Bran product.
For this application ozone gas was introduced into bran agitators to lower bacteria, yeast, and mold counts. Ozone Solutions provided an Ozone Generator within a NEMA 4 enclosure to be used for this process. Two sealed bran agitators were used to mix the ozone with the bran product.
This pictures shows the bran agitators that were used. The ozone was injected into two ports on top of the mixer on the far end of the picture. The wall mount ozone generator that was producing the ozone necessary for this process is seen in the background.
This system has recently become operational. Testing and lab data will be obtained over the next few months.
Feel free to contact our office with any questions on this new application. If you would like to find out more about putting our ozone experience to use for you, contact our application engineers.

Kamvar,
Ozone is used as an anti bacterial agent in the application shown in the pictures. In a mixer as shown in those pictures ozone gas is injected and mixed with the bran, or flour. This does lower bacteria and is a great method of providing longer shelf life, and a safer product to the end user.

Hello,
I want to ask for Ozone Generator for use in Flour Mill.
Not in wheat tempering but in final Flour.
Thanks

Dimitris,
Ozone can also be used on the final flour product for antimicrobial intervention. The same methods of mixing ozone and bran can be used to mix ozone and flour.

Mr Joel
Thank you for your answer.
But where can i find this type of machine ?
We have an old machine (TEKA Apparatebau A-20-E) but we dont know the details.
If you propose something else we would like an answer.

Dimitris,
I am not familiar with the TEKA machine. Any sealed flour or bran mixer will work to agitate the flour and mix ozone gas. In some cases we use a simple auger, or other device that is moving the flour. There are also mixers used to mix chlorine gas for flour bleaching. These same mixers can be used for flour and ozone. The device that mixes the ozone and flour is not as important as the actual ozone demand, and ozone generator itself. Many of these application can be satisfied with an ozone generator like the TS-20 Ozone Generator seen HERE.
